This Month in P.E. ... The children have really learned so much this year in physical education. We have learned about all the ways to be a healthy person for life. We have experienced parachutes, jump ropes, and cup stacking. We have developed our upper body strength and flexibility. We will end the year with a unit on Dodge Ball and Dance, Dance Revolution as well as complete our FitnessGram testing. Thank you for supporting your child in these physical activities this year and making sure your child was here each morning for Crossing goes Walking.
Please continue to support your child’s physical fitness through the summer. Have a great summer! I’ll see you outside!
This Month in Library... Thank you to all who helped with the school's Book Fair! We had a very successful event and I would not be able to pull it off without all of your help. We will be able to purchase many new books for the school's library from our profits! Hope everyone has a great summer and continues to read. Check out the local public libraries for children's summer events.
This Month in Music... This year has certainly flown by! I can't believe its May. Your children have been a joy to teach and many have discovered their hidden talents in music. We've had many shining stars perform in programs, earn black belts in recorder karate, and learn to sing in tune. The honor choir will perform its final concert of the year on Thursday, May 7th at 6:30 p.m. Please come and hear how well they are singing. Many of them will be a part of the middle school choir next year and will continue their musical journey throughout high school. The MCE strings classes will also perform at this concert. Awards Day for the 5th grade is scheduled for Tuesday, May 19th. They will sing and perform on recorders, so please encourage your 5th grader to practice their recorder tunes at home. Recorders are available for check-out but must be returned before the program and brought to school each Thursday for music class. If you are moving to the new school or somewhere else, please have your child pick up their recorder (3rd - 5th grades) to take with them. If they are left here, they will be thrown away over the summer as we do not share recorders.
Thank you for all of your support and attendance at all of our programs here at MCE. I am looking forward to another great year in 2009-2010!
This Month in Computer... Students in grades K-5 have really enjoyed coming to the computer lab and have been very excited all year long. The students have all performed exceptionally well and I am very proud of them. I have enjoyed being a part of their learning process. Hooray to K-5th grade students for a job well done this year. Have a safe and wonderful summer break.
This Month in Gifted... As the school year draws to a close, the PAthways students will go out with a bang by presenting their independent studies. I am eager to see and hear the creative presentations involving oceanography from my fourth graders and to see the unique spaghetti eating utensils the second and third graders have invented as well. As a culmination to our unit, the young inventors will create and taste their own original cookie creations.
The fifth graders completed their toothpick bridges and tested them for strength with fantastic results: their truss beam designs held up under pressure. After reviewing Newton’s Laws and doing some research, we will finish out the year by designing and building our own roller coasters. This has been a great year in PAthways. Thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of your child’s education. Have a wonderful summer!
