Congratulations Jasper W., a 5th grader at Madison Crossing! Jasper will travel to Washington, DC on July 13-14 to represent Mississippi in the National Tar Wars poster contest!

While in DC, she will visit the MS Congressmen’s offices to lobby for anti-tobacco legislation at the national level. Tar Wars is supported locally by the Mississippi Academy of Family Physicians Foundation. Tar Wars is an anti-tobacco education program for 4th and 5th graders that encourages students to be tobacco free, provides them with the tools to make positive decisions regarding their health, and promotes personal responsibility for their well being.

Jasper, we are proud of you and keep up the great work!

May 2009:

• FROM OUR PRINCIPAL

Dear Madison Crossing Families, I find it so hard to believe that this year is coming to an end! It has been such a great year at Madison Crossing Elementary filled with numerous memories of your precious children and all of the milestones they have achieved this year. It is truly a blessing to be surrounded with a dedicated staff, fabulous children and supportive parents. We have accomplished so many things this year, and it wouldn’t have happened with you!

We are gearing up to take our state MCT2 tests on May 12, 13, and 14 in grades 3-5. This will be our chance to show the rest of the state all that we have accomplished this year. I do ask that you will make sure that your children are on time for school, have a good night’s sleep and have a good breakfast on those testing dates. We are striving for perfect attendance, and each class that has no absentees will have an extra recess following testing.

I would like to wish each of you a restful and relaxing summer vacation! I encourage you to spend time with your children in conversation and physical activity. Encourage the habits of reading and writing in all that you do over the summer. I look forward to seeing each of you as we return to school in August. We will post dates for our “Meet the Teacher Night,” bus route information as it is made available to us, and registration information on the Madison Crossing web site.

It is difficult to say “goodbye” to our students and families who will be transferring to Mannsdale Elementary or moving on to Germantown Middle School. Next year will bring many changes for our school and our facility (no more trailers!). Stay tuned for another exciting year and many new traditions to come...

Yours in learning, Martha D’Amico
